The comparison of tissue IL - 22 levels between Psoriasis and Vitiligo patients

چکیده
Objective: Interleukin (IL)-22 is a cytokine that is involved in the modulation of tissue remodeling during inflammation. Different types of T cells secrete IL-22. IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) induce Th22 cells to produce IL-22, particularly in the skin, whereas γδ T cells produce IL-22 in response to IL-23, particularly in the lung. IL-22 is known to be expressed in many chronic inflammatory conditions, including several skin diseases. This study was planned to comparison the role of IL-22 receptor type 1 (IL-22R1) between psoriasis and vitiligo in skin biopsy specimens. Methods: Study involved 49 patients with psoriasis, 53 patients with vitiligo and 45 healthy control subjects. The clinical sign and PASI scores of psoriasis patients as well as the duration, and involved body area of vitiligo patients were recorded. Immunohistochemically, expression of IL22-R1 was investigated in the skin lesions of psoriasis and vitiligo patients and control group skin. Results: A statistically significant increase of the expression of IL22R1 was found in the skin biopsies of psoriasis patients compared with the vitiligo patients and control group subjects. In patients with psoriasis, there was a positive correlation between the expressions of IL-22R1 and PASI scores (p = 0.001, r = +0.572). In addition, there was no significant difference in epidermal IL-22R expression between vitiligo and the control group ( P=0.509). Conclusions: The present study has demonstrated that IL22-R1 doesn’t have a significant role in pathogenesis of the vitiligo and that Th22 cells may not be the pivotal cells in the pathophysiology of this disease.

Serum Levels of IL-10 and IL-22 Cytokines in Patients with Psoriasis
Background: As a chronic inflammatory condition, psoriasis results from an interaction between genetic and immunologic factors in a predisposing environment. In spite of compelling evidence for the role of T cells and cytokines in psoriasis, interleukin (IL)- 10 and IL-22 have not been sufficiently investigated. Objective: To assess the serum levels of IL-10 and IL-22 in patients with psori...
متن کاملTissue and Serum Inflammatory Cytokine Levels in Korean Psoriasis Patients: A Comparison between Plaque and Guttate Psoriasis
BACKGROUND The phenotypic heterogeneity of psoriasis could be explained by the alternate activation of either T-helper (Th)-1- or Th-17-related cytokines. However, evidence directly supporting this hypothesis is scarce. OBJECTIVE To characterize the expression of Th-1- and Th-17-related cytokines according to the morphological psoriasis phenotype: guttate vs. plaque. METHODS In this study, ...
متن کاملA Comparative Study on the Prevalence of Depression and Suicidal Ideation in Dermatology Patients Suffering from Psoriasis, Acne, Alopecia Areata and Vitiligo
Background: Due to their chronic nature, influences on the body image, hopelessness toward complete recovery and frequent recurrences, dermatological diseases seem to be one of the important predisposing factors in depression and suicidal ideation. Thus, the present study aimed at evaluating the degree of depression and suicidal ideation in patients with psoriasis, acne, alopecia areata a...
متن کاملIL-17A, IL-22, IL-6, and IL-21 Serum Levels in Plaque-Type Psoriasis in Brazilian Patients
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by alterations in cytokines produced by both Th1 and Th17 pathways. The aim of this study was to evaluate serum levels of pivotal cytokines and correlate them with clinical parameters. Serum samples from 53 psoriasis patients and 35 healthy volunteers, matched by the proportion of sex and age ratios, were collected for ELISA cytokin...
متن کاملGene Expression Analysis of Inflammatory Cytokines in Korean Psoriatic Patients
BACKGROUND Although phenotypic heterogeneity of psoriasis is suggested by the alternate activation of either T-helper (Th)1-related or Th17-related cytokines, little is known about the mRNA levels of inflammatory cytokines. OBJECTIVE To investigate whether there is differential expression of Th1-related and Th17-related inflammatory cytokine genes 1) between psoriatic patients and healthy con...
